I have always had a love for dressing up, whether it was messing around inside a massive wooden trunk full of children’s costumes as a kid-to discovering cosplay at fourteen. Costuming played a massive role in giving me confidence as someone else when I didn’t have any for myself.

I have always seen costume as a creative challenge and as a medium in which I can push myself to learn new skills. Whether its sewing, pattern drafting, mold-making, resin casting, foam and thermoplastic work or 3D printing, each costume has been such a fun and rewarding experience to bring to life.

Studying Costume Design for Film has helped me specialise in character conceptualisation and design. Expanding what’s possible for me to create as I now work digitally with Photoshop and Procreate.

What I DO?

I concentrate on showing garment detail and creating strong character visuals by working both practically and using both photoshop and procreate to compile a character.

1

Design

2

create

I love the challenge of constructing costumes. I have experience in making bulky costumes wearable for long periods with specialist light-weight materials. Building characters is my strong suit for they are readable by what they wear.

3

teach

Whether it's a design or hand making project, I love to work with others. My work as a costume designer has taught me how to work efficiently within a team of makers and supervisors focused on delivering detail.

4

Collaborate

I stream on Twitch during my creative process to educate others with procreate and crafting skills. Alongside being an alumni at Arts University Bournemouth, I have been dedicated to costume design from a young age and aspire to get others to consider costume as a career or enjoy it as a freedom of expression.

“We are so pleased for Kathy with her amazing success on Stitch, Please! Kathy is a wonderfully creative design student who is always looking to challenge herself and learn new skills. Will Hargreaves. Senior Lecturer in Performance Design and Film Costume

From Arts University Bournemouth

“Kathy’s talent in 3D costume came to the fore on this project, and she has produced a dynamic costume for this competition. Kathy’s reimagining of the Hunger Games  aesthetic is original and dramatic, and her determination and work ethic were evident throughout – this is a credit to her and her course.”

Mandy Barrington. Senior Lecturer in Costume at Arts University Bournemouth

From Theo Paphitis Retail Group

"Last week we held our first TPRG Conference for three years, and I'd like to give a special thanks to a brilliant detail-oriented young designer that really brought the magic by pulling this fantastic costume together. Thank you @zeta.costume for your fabulous work from drawing board designs, to fittings and ensuring a fantastic end costume and choice of hats! You delivered exactly what we were after!”

-Theo Paphitis. CEO of Theo Paphitis Retail Group, also known for appearing on Dragons Den.

From stitch, please! on bbcthree

"I really love the way it fits around the neck here, I think that-I mean its phenomenal the way it goes into the clavicles. I am really impressed as that’s the sort of area I was really worried about."

"I thought her fabric choices were great. I thought her fit was really good. Like the cut edge-the sharpness. I liked the origami. It just fitted well. Katherine worked with the materials really well, there were a couple of things that were a bit ‘wodgy’ here-but actually it didn’t show when it was put together and that’s what matters.”

-Michele Clapton. Emmy-award-winning Costume Designer known for her work on The Crown and Game of Thrones. Special guest judge on Stitch, Please!

“Although her spine broke, her sewing was impeccable. Her futuristic design screamed The Hunger Games and her use of sustainable fabrics really impressed us.”

- Blu Hydrangea. Host and judge of  Stitch, Please! Also known for competing on the first series of RuPaul's Drag Race UK and later winning the first season of RuPaul's Drag Race: UK vs the World.
